3G spectrum auctions gains 67718.95 cr, wireless broadband auction eagerly awaited

After hapless 4 years of frenetic delays in bidding process, DoT finally transparently auctioned the 3G airwaves of 2.1 GHz .

In the case of the 3G Auction, the Government has decided to auction upto 20 MHz
of paired spectrum in the 2.1GHz band in the telecom service areas where 25 MHz or more paired spectrum is available.

The actual amount of available spectrum in blocks of 2X5 MHz will be allocated, with one block being reserved for BSNL/ MTNL.

India's fiscal deficit was at a 16-year high of 6.9% of GDP in the last fiscal year, and it has set a target to cut that to 5.5% this year & watching the frenzied income of 2.1 GHz bidding process, Broadband wireless access & 800 MHz spectrum may bring down deficit to 4.9%.
It is expected that auctioning of aforesaid spectrum could raise a combined Rs 92,100Cr from selling the rights to its airwaves, Morgan Stanley says.
